Shonali Burke speaks with a student from Strategic Social Media at Ohio University

Shonali Burke, a 2016 Sloan Speaker for the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, spoke with students of Strategic Social Media on March 14.  Burke is the president and CEO of Shonali Burke Consulting, LLC, and the founder of The Social PR Virtuoso.  As a 16-year veteran of public relations, Burke has managed community engagements campaigns for the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, ASPCA, and USA for UNHCR‘s #bluekey campaign.  Follow along to learn #ouj4530 students’ insights that were gained from Burke’s talk.

Schuneman Symposium 2016

On March 15 and 16, the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism and the School of Visual Communication hosted the annual Schuneman Symposium at Ohio University.  This year’s theme — image, immersion, impact — explored emerging technology used in journalism with speakers including Tim Matsui, Nadine Ajaka and Nigel Holmes.  Students from OU’s Strategic Social Media attended the symposium and live tweeted their insights from the event.

Rob Mixer, digital content and community manager for the Columbus Blue Jackets and E.W. Ryan Morgan, Digital Director of Jeni’s Ice Creams, spoke with the class over cups of Salty Caramel about the luxury ice cream company’s social media campaigns and strategies.  Above all, Morgan emphasized that within Jeni’s digital marketing strategy, “We’re visual storytellers.”

 

 

 

In addition to talking about Jeni’s marketing philosophies, Morgan also shared some of Jeni’s campaigns, including the new Colors Collection campaign.  The Colors campaign invites customers to experience the sensation of color through a taste experience.
